RIP Jeanne-Claude

Half of the prolific artistic collaborators (and husband and wife team) of Christo and Jeanne-Claude has passed. Jeanne-Claude died yesterday due to complications from a ruptured brain aneurysm. Christo and Jeanne-Claude met 51 years ago, and have been working together ever since.

“Christo is dedicated to completing their current works in progress: Over The River, Project for the Arkansas River, State of Colorado, and The Mastaba, Project for the United Arab Emirates, as Jeanne-Claude would wish.”

In case you aren’t familiar with their work, you’ve probably seen The Gates that were here in NYC about 5 years ago. I still remember being in Central Park early on that snowy first morning they were open to the public! In fact I think I was with you gals, Courtney and Kaitlyn. I even still have an original orange scrap from one of the curtains on the gates. Being that their form of art was temporary pieces in specific places, I feel really lucky to have been able to interact with one in person. Below are some of my other favorites.

Christo and Jeanne-Claude, The Gates, Central Park, New York City, 1979-2005

Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Wrapped Trees, Fondation Beyeler and Berower Park, Riehen, Switzerland 1997-98

Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Running Fence, Sonoma and Marin Counties, California 1972-76
