Antiques Web Show, Vol. 82

Matt Sharp, everyone’s favorite (and the only worthwhile) bassist for Weezer, started his own band after he left Weezer. Fuzzed-out bass, Phased-out keyboards and upbeat drums made this an adorably poppy record. Enjoy 1995’s Return of the Rentals.

Dictating must really take it out of you.

Frank Black, one fo the main creative driving forces behind The Pixies, had plenty of songs for their next album. Problem was, there wouldn’t be another Pixies album. Lucky for us, we got 1994’s Teenager of the Year.

You Need to Eat a Sandwich.

I’m aware this is not a food blog but bear with me for a moment.

The sandwich shop next to the Ace Hotel is phenomenal. I know you’ve probably read this before because it’s all the rage on the blogs these days… but ladies and gents, I just ate it for the first time.

And No. 7 Sub is so good that I don’t care if it’s on the other blogs, we need to talk about it on this one too.

I ordered the Brussel Sprout Sandwich, I’ve been dying to try it ever since I read about it. But two bites into it I realized they mistakingly gave me the Eggplant Sandwich. I did not care. It was perfection. I will just have to go back and get that Brussel Sprout Sammy tomorrow.

Has anyone else tried this place? DAMN.

Antiques Web Show, Vol. 80

It’s freezing, but next week is looking warmer. Sobriety is killing me, but I’m feeling better and getting into shape. This February is chock-full of happenings and I need to look on the bright side. Aztec Camera always helps. Top-notch Scottish New Wave with Jangly guitars, Dancey baselines and catchy hooks. What else is there? Here’s 1983’s High Land, Hard Rain.

The BEST Superbowl ad.

Thank God for reissues to remind you how good albums are. Ride was an English band that existed in the shoegaze circuit, but had too much interest in melody to stick around there for long. Their music exists somewhere between My Bloody Valentine, The Stone Roses and Oasis (Andy Bell of Ride would later play bass for Oasis.) Here’s Ride’s EXTREMELY listenable 1990 album, Nowhere.

Crushin’ it!

Heart Melt.

Puppy takes the most adorable bath. I could watch this all day. All day, I tell you!
