Van Gogh Starry Night Room

Entering my bedroom from high school in this Urban Outfitters: Room Sweet Room contest.

ALRIGHT, GO AHEAD.

It doesn’t matter if it’s been done before when you do it a gazillion times better than those before you.

This is fun.

TRIFECTA

Hello Fwends and fwends of fwends AND fwends of fwends of fwends,

I’m doing a bit of shameless promotion here. I’ve been working with some friends who are starting up a submission-based triannual publication. They are all photographers as well as curators, editors and photo editors.

Here’s an excerpt on what it’s all about:

We, as Trifecta, are a submission-based triannual publication. We curate a collection of multimedia works by diverse artists and offer a broad range of perspectives on a simple idea. Our intent is to create a contained archive for collectors. Think “treasure box.”

Trifecta manufactures each individual archive by hand. We design the inside of the book around what you submit. We strive to work with our artists to create something unique, so we ask participants to be creative with the presentation of your submission and challenge us.

Each issue has a theme, which can be interpreted in any way you see fit.

They’re accepting submissions now on the theme ” BAMBOOZLED” and you can find the full brief at trifectapublishing.wordpress.com/

It would be a great project to get involved in if anyone is interested in doing some new work!

Nicola Verlato

Amazing oil paintings by Nicola Verlato—I’m in love with modern subjects painted in the style of the masters. Makes you realize that sometimes video and photography don’t always capture/emote all there is to see/feel.

Wayne White

Pieces from the artist Wayne White’s book Maybe Now I’ll Get The Respect I So Richly Deserve, edited by Todd Oldham, published by Ammo Books. He takes cheaply mass produced lithogaphs which he finds in secondhand thrift stores and painstakingly writes phrases or words on them in a glossy 3-D style; many compare him to Ed Ruscha. [Oh and he won 2 Emmys as a set designer/puppeteer on Pee Wee’s Playhouse before he started this whole painting thing…And won a Billboard award for the art direction of Peter Gabriel’s “Big Time” in 1986…And in 1996 he designed all the sets for the amazing Smashing Pumpkins video “Tonight, Tonight.” And… I wanna know him.]

David Weidman

Just yesterday I had the honor of visiting the home and studio of 1960’s screen printer and artist, David Weidman and his wife Dorothy, also an artist. I can’t say I was super informed on Weidman’s work prior to visiting, but oh-man is his work nuts. His colors are incredible, and the subject matter, ranging from illustrative castles, vegetables or kids, to more abstract shapes or animals are such a pleasure to look at. Weidman’s studio is also a sight to behold. It’s full of art, photos, ceramics by both his wife and himself, and the most windy series of rooms and decks that look out onto the LA Highland Park hills. The Whimsical Work of David Weidman and Also Some Serious Ones is out and for purchase here.

Jonas Wood

It might just be me, but Jonas Wood’s paintings bring me back to happier times, like my 2nd grade art class when Miss Katy would tell us to paint whatever we loved, like cactuses or basketball players or your bedroom’s red door. Sigh.

Adrian Ghenie

Lovely, haunting paintings by Adrian Ghenie. (My favorite is the first one—it’s like the man in the painting knows he’s in a painting. And he’s kinda pissed about it.)
